Editing Special Forces

Picture
Every once in a while a book comes along which changes your life. I can safely say "Special Forces" did it for me. From the first few pages, the story grabbed me and didn't let go. Not till I finished the whole 1,000,000 word saga and even after, finding out the story behind the story.

Apart from the great action, hot sex and intense emotion that sears with unrelenting force page after page, the whole evolution of the epic is worth commenting on.

Published on the net, chapter by chapter. Written by two people, carrying the traditional role playing game to the next level. It's a landmark in web-based publishing and a testimony to the two writers that they created a cohesive whole over the two and a half years it took to write.

Sure until the "Director's Cut" edition came along there were mistakes in tense, point of view and English expression, mainly because of the fact English was a second language for the writers, but none of these faults detracted from the force of the story.

Unlike traditionally published books, "Special Forces" never got that second draft where a writer will assess what their first draft created as a whole and ensure the plot has all aspects it needs

It's a testament to the writers that their creation hangs together so well as a readable whole.

It was an honor to be invited to help with the editing of the "The Director's Cut" (pictured opposite) available as free download's from here.

The whole of the first book "Soldiers" has been done and Aleksandr Voinov and I are now working on "Mercenaries" with chapters being posted as they are finished. Along the way, as an exercise in point of view, I played around with looking at how different the first few chapters of Mercenaries would have been if you just had one of the character's point of view. The words are all the author's originals, just sections cut which were thought not said. I created a "Dan's Story" and a "Vadim's story". If you're interested in learning more about that, feel free to contact me.
